"It was a steamy Saturday afternoon, summer 1966 and the Alan Bown Set, amonst others were playing at The Marquee Club.
I know that they were being recorded and think it was when they did 'Live at the Marquee' with Jimmy James & the Vagabonds. Might have my dates wrong for this event but the music was definitely live over the radio.
The atmosphere was electric and with every break there was an announcement about the World Cup results. Whilst there weren't many football supporters there it still just somehow added to the incredible atmosphere of the club. We didn't do drugs, didn't really drink - just got off on the sensational music and ambience. We came out into the blurry late afternoon and it was like a different world - Soho was full of Bonne Homie - everyone was a 'brother' hugging and so full of emotion - unreal. We were still reeling from the music - I don't think we even realised the England had won the World Cup for the 1st time in over 30 years!!! A memorable day."
