Earth, later known as Black Sabbath, played their first gig at the Marquee on the 3rd January 1969. The band had decided to expand their audience from the small scene of Birmingham to the capital. Between January and March they played five shows at the Marquee, the last one on the 13th of March was announced under the name of Black Sabbath.
