Memories on this night
" I used to go to The Marquee in Wardour Street and Charing Cross Road about a couple of times a week. The Marquee in Wardour Street, my first gig was in December 1987 with Monterrez and Great White. Monterrez was my cousin's band, which is how I got to meet Great White that evening, which is also when they did their live recording of that evening which went onto their 'Twice Shy/Live at The Marquee' album. I remember the layout of the club very well and the doormen gave me a membership and a t-shirt as a present once as I was a regular and came to know some of the bands that played there. The Marquee in Charing Cross Road, by this time I knew lots of the bands: The Tattooed Love Boys, The Grip, Wrathchild, The Last of the Teenage Idols, Dumpys Rusty Nuts (my ex boyfriend was Dumpys bass player, Jim Houghton), The Quireboys, Dressed to Kill and I'm sure I've forgotten quite a few. The two doormen were called Jack, who was Scottish and Chuck who after The Marquee closed went to The Astoria as a DJ I believe on their rock nights.
I can't begin to say how much enjoyment I got from going to these clubs while I was growing up. It taught me so much and if anyone was going to experience something like this the 80's was the best time to do it. Even though I was very young, everyone was so nice and there never seemed to be any trouble. There was always a safe feeling about the club as everyone else there was there for the same reason you were, to listen to some great music and have a good time."
